Dave Franco Joins Sophie Wilde in New Alien Invasion Thriller Heading to Cannes Market

Dave Franco is heading back into genre territory, and honestly, this project already sounds strange in the best possible way.

The actor has officially joined Sophie Wilde in the upcoming alien invasion thriller Soon You Will Be Gone And Possibly Eaten, a sci-fi horror film that’s now generating attention ahead of the Cannes market.

The title alone feels like something designed to grab horror fans immediately. And with the team involved, it probably will.

According to reports first shared by Deadline, the film will be directed by Egor Abramenko, the filmmaker behind the sci-fi horror movie Sputnik. The screenplay comes from writers Luke Piotrowski and Ben Collins, who previously worked on Hellraiser and The Night House.

What Is the Movie About?

The story follows Rob and Sabile, an engaged couple played by Franco and Wilde, who travel to a secluded mountain resort for their wedding.

That’s when things go completely wrong.

Instead of a peaceful ceremony, they find themselves trapped in the middle of what sounds like a brutal alien invasion. Reports describe the event as turning into a bloodbath after unexpected extraterrestrial guests crash the wedding.

It feels closer to contained survival horror than a giant CGI disaster movie. More personal. More tense.

And honestly, that approach usually works better for alien thrillers.

Why People Are Paying Attention

A big reason this project is getting traction is the casting.

Sophie Wilde has become one of horror’s fastest-rising stars after her breakout performance in Talk to Me. Meanwhile, Dave Franco has recently leaned harder into darker genre projects instead of straight comedy roles.

That combination gives the movie an interesting energy already.

There’s also growing interest because the film is heading to the Cannes market, where international buyers and studios look for buzzy upcoming projects. A strong reaction there could push the film into one of the more talked-about horror titles currently in development.

The Creative Team Behind the Film

The project is based on a short story by Nick Antosca, who is already well known in horror circles for creating dark psychological stories.

Production companies involved include Anonymous Content, Divide/Conquer, Eat the Cat, and Anton, which is reportedly financing the movie and handling worldwide rights sales.

Filming is expected to begin this summer.

Brief Ledger Covered the Story Too

Entertainment writer Chloe Jones also covered the news for Brief Ledger, highlighting the growing buzz surrounding the project and its Cannes market launch.

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of alien invasion movies every year. Most blur together.

This one feels different already.

Part of that is the bizarre title. Part of it is the horror-heavy creative team. But mostly, it’s because the project sounds smaller, stranger, and more chaotic than the average studio sci-fi film.

And right now, that’s probably exactly what horror fans want.
